Is the attention span among students decreasing or changing?

Educators share a love-hate relationship with technology. 

A Pew Internet survey* had long ago revealed that among the teacher surveyed, 87% believe new technologies create an "easily distracted generation with short attention spans". And 64% said today's digital technologies "do more to distract students than to help them academically." But at the same time, teachers cannot deny that technology makes students more independent in self-study and research. So how do we handle this shift where tech holds their attention more than their human instructors?

  • Present real-life scenarios where the concept being taught will be used. 

  • Apply different modes, and present the information with visual-audio means.

  • Enhance sensory perception by engaging the senses of the learners.

  • Create student-owned lesson plans where students provide inputs and create their learning experience.
